OUR STORY

Welcome to Karina's Confectioneries, Karina here!

In 2016 I made my very first cake, a cute but simple pink rosette design for a dear friend's daughter. After sharing a photo of it on social media, other friends started coming to me for cakes and as I continued to hone my baking and decorating skills, friends of friends came calling. Before long I was juggling what felt like two full-time jobs: my real job during the day and cake making at night.

My forays into baking started at a very young age when I would serve as my mom's "baking assistant". I grew up in Mindelo, Cabo Verde, in a home where the intoxicating aromas of flour, eggs, butter, and sugar baking in the oven were ever-present. Even though I didn't get over my fear of lighting up our gas oven until I was 14, I was always at my mom's heels, waiting in anticipation for a spoonful of raw cake batter (this is the part where I feel ethically obligated to tell you not to try this at home).

When I moved to Rhode Island at the age of 15 and discovered chocolate chip cookies for the first time, I was determined to learn how to bake just so I could make them for myself whenever I wanted. To this day, chocolate chip cookies are still my favorite things to make and eat and there’s always a batch of cookie dough in the freezer, ready to be baked at a moment's notice.

Fast forward to February of 2021 when I finally made the decision to turn my passion for delicious desserts and beautifully decorated floral cakes and cupcakes into a business. So far it has been a wonderfully rewarding experience, full of support and encouragement from family, friends, Orlando’s awesome local community, and even strangers on the internet.

I'm excited to continue creating with flour, eggs, butter, and sugar. And just as my mom did for me, I can't wait to help you create your own sweet memories with your loved ones as you celebrate life's special moments.

Love,

Karina
